Fix monitor setup and check problems
Diagnose monitor setup and check problems, understand each status, and choose a safe recovery step.
Last verified about 21 hours ago
If a monitor is not checking as expected, open it from Monitoring > Monitors. The monitor detail page shows its health, latest confirmed check, check history, and the safest action available for its current state.
Monitoring relies on a configured provider and scheduled checks. Results can be delayed, partial, or unavailable, so an overdue or failed check does not prove that nothing changed. Use the steps below to restore checking or confirm the monitor's current state.
Before you troubleshoot
Check these details on the monitor's Overview and Checks tabs:
- Status tells you whether the monitor is active, paused, archived, or needs setup attention.
- Health tells you whether checks are confirming results on schedule for the saved cadence.
- Last confirmed check is the latest check with a confirmed result: change found, no change, or failed.
- Checks shows check requests and confirmed outcomes. A manual request can appear before its result is confirmed.
Also confirm that the workspace has an active subscription and enough credits for monitoring. If either is unavailable, Ampere can stop checks until the workspace is ready again.
If the monitor is awaiting its first check
Awaiting first confirmed check means the monitor does not yet have a confirmed change, no-change, or failure result. This can happen just after setup, resume, or restore because each of those flows starts with a fresh baseline check.
- Open the monitor and select Checks.
- Look for a Check requested row or a confirmed outcome.
- If a recent request is present, wait for its result before sending another request.
- If the monitor is active and Check now is available, request a check and return to Checks to review the result.
A request that has no confirmed result within the time shown in the app is marked in the check history. Do not assume the request failed solely because the result is not immediate.
If setup failed
Setup Failed means setup did not finish and the monitor is not checking for changes.
- Open the monitor and select Retry provisioning.
- Wait for the monitor status to refresh.
- If setup fails again, select Edit monitor and review what the monitor watches, then save and retry.
If the saved configuration is correct but repeated attempts still fail, note the monitor name, the approximate retry time, and the visible error before contacting support. These details make the issue easier to trace.
If the latest check failed
Latest Check Failed means Ampere could not confirm the latest result, so recent changes may be missing.
- Open Checks and review the failed row and any message shown with it.
- Confirm that the monitor is still active.
- Select Check now when the action is available.
- Return to Checks and wait for a confirmed result.
A failed check is not treated as a successful no-change result. Review the next confirmed check before deciding that the watched source has not changed.
If a check is overdue
Check Overdue means no check was confirmed on the saved schedule, so recent changes may be missing.
- Open the monitor and review its cadence and recent check history.
- Select Check now when available.
- Review Checks for the new request and its confirmed result.
Monitoring is provider-backed and is not a guarantee of immediate or exhaustive change detection. If overdue checks continue after a manual check succeeds, keep the monitor under review. If manual checks also fail or remain unconfirmed, contact support with the monitor name, cadence, and approximate request times.
If Check now is unavailable
Check now is available for active monitors. It can be temporarily unavailable when:
- A monitor action is already in progress.
- A manual check was requested recently. The button or tooltip tells you when to try again.
- The provider is not ready to accept the request.
- The monitor is paused, archived, or still in setup.
Do not repeatedly submit the same action while another request is in progress. Wait for the visible action to finish, refresh the monitor if needed, and follow the status-specific next step.
When billing is active, the confirmation dialog explains that an additional check reserves 2 credits. Any Joule follow-up work after a change is found uses credits separately.
If checks stopped because of credits or subscription status
A paused monitor can explain why checks stopped:
- If the workspace could not fund the next monitoring checks, add credits and then resume the monitors you want to restart.
- If the workspace needs an active subscription, restore subscription eligibility before resuming.
- If Monitoring is unavailable for the workspace, wait until workspace access is restored.
Resuming starts a fresh baseline check. It does not fill in checks that were missed while the monitor was paused.
If cleanup is in progress
Cleanup in Progress means checks are already stopped while Ampere finishes cleanup. New checks will not appear or be charged during this state.
No action is required while cleanup finishes. Resume or Restore becomes available after cleanup is complete. Avoid recreating the same monitor just to work around this temporary state.
If the last request was not confirmed
The Last request not confirmed notice means Ampere could not confirm whether a monitor action completed.
Select Retry reconciliation to inspect the current monitor state. Reconciliation does not repeat the original action and does not request another check. It may remove a confirmed duplicate if one was created.
If reconciliation still cannot confirm the state, record the operation named in the notice and contact support before repeating the original action.
If the monitor is archived
Archiving stops future checks and moves the monitor to Archived. Its alerts and check history remain available.
Select Restore when you want to start checking again. Restoring begins with a fresh baseline check, so it does not recreate checks for the archived period.
Confirm that the monitor recovered
After a retry, resume, restore, or manual check, confirm all three signs:
- The monitor has the expected active status.
- Checks shows a new request followed by a confirmed result.
- Last confirmed check updates on Overview.
Contact support if setup repeatedly fails, manual requests remain unconfirmed, reconciliation cannot establish the current state, or checks continue to fail or become overdue after the workspace, credits, and monitor configuration are confirmed. Include the monitor name, cadence, visible status or error, and approximate times of the affected actions. Do not include passwords, connected-account secrets, or private tokens.
