Ad copy character counter

Google won't accept a headline that's one character too long, and Meta cuts off text that runs past its recommended length. Write your ad here to check every field and see a preview as you type.

Character limits for Google, Meta, and LinkedIn ads

Each limit below comes from the platform's own help pages, checked in October 2026.

  • Google responsive search ad: 3 to 15 headlines of up to 30 characters, 2 to 4 descriptions of up to 90, and two display paths of up to 15.
  • Google Performance Max: headlines of up to 30 characters, with at least one of 15 or fewer; long headlines of up to 90; descriptions of up to 90; and a business name of up to 25.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram): no published hard limits, only recommended lengths. Primary text of 125 characters or fewer for Instagram Feed and 50 to 150 for Facebook Feed; headlines of 27 or fewer for Facebook Feed and 40 or fewer for Instagram Feed.
  • LinkedIn single image ad: introductory text up to 3,000 characters (150 recommended), headline up to 200 (70 recommended), and description up to 300 (100 recommended).

Write headlines that work in any order

Google combines your headlines and descriptions in different orders, so each one has to make sense on its own. Google recommends giving it as many unique headlines as you can, so it has more combinations to try.

  • Put your main keyword in a few headlines, not all of them.
  • Include your offer or a reason to act, such as a free trial.
  • Say something different in each headline instead of rewording the same idea.

Put the point first

On Meta and LinkedIn, the start of your text is often all people see before "See more". Put the hook and the offer in the first sentence, and keep headlines short enough to read at a glance.

Characters that count double, and characters to avoid

Google counts each Korean, Japanese, and Chinese character as 2. Its editorial rules also forbid extra spaces, punctuation used for effect, and unsupported characters, so this counter flags double spaces, repeated exclamation or question marks, and emoji.
