Use Joule follow-ups for monitoring alerts
Learn how monitor follow-ups use your project, attachments, and Joule settings, and how to review completed work safely.
Last verified about 21 hours ago
A monitor can do more than tell you that something changed. If you add an optional Joule follow-up, Ampere can start a focused piece of work after an alert is created—for example, summarizing the change, explaining why it matters, or drafting a response for your team to review.
Follow-ups are optional. A monitor can still check its source, create alerts, and preserve evidence without starting a Joule session.
Decide what Joule should do
When you create or edit a monitor, use Ask Joule to to describe the work that should happen after a relevant change is found. Write a specific instruction that can be applied each time the monitor alerts.
Good follow-up instructions name the outcome and boundaries. For example:
- Summarize the change and list the likely impact on our positioning.
- Draft three talking points for the sales team, using only the alert evidence and saved project context.
- Compare the new page copy with our current product brief and flag claims that need review.
Do not use a follow-up as a promise that every change will be detected or that Joule will publish or send work automatically. Review the alert evidence and Joule's output before relying on it.
Choose the project and supporting context
Every monitor belongs to a project. That project gives the follow-up a defined place to use and save relevant context.
You can also add attachments to the monitor's follow-up settings. Use attachments for stable reference material that Joule should consider whenever an alert starts follow-up work, such as a product brief, messaging guide, or approved comparison framework.
Keep the instruction and attachments current. If you materially change what the monitor watches or what Joule should do, review the saved settings again before relying on later follow-ups.
Review Joule settings
The monitor stores the model, effort, and machine settings used for its follow-up work. Stronger models, higher effort, and larger machines can use more credits. Follow-up usage is separate from the credits shown for the monitoring check itself.
Before saving the monitor, confirm that:
- Ask Joule to describes one clear outcome.
- The selected project contains the context you expect Joule to use.
- Any attachments are still relevant and safe to reuse.
- The model, effort, and machine settings match the complexity of the work.
- Your organization has enough credits for both monitoring checks and any follow-up work that starts.
Review a completed follow-up
Open Monitoring, select the alert, and find the Joule follow-up section. Depending on the run state, the alert can show a status, a readable response preview, and a summary of created outputs.
Long responses can be expanded with Show more. If you have access to the underlying session, select Open in Joule to inspect the full conversation and its files or outputs.
The alert remains the source for what changed and the evidence the monitor found. The Joule session is the follow-up workspace. Review both when the conclusion depends on the original source.
Understand restricted session access
Monitoring alerts are shared work for the organization, but a linked Joule session can have its own access rules. If the alert says Joule follow-up is available to session members, you can review the shared alert and evidence but cannot open that session with your current access.
Ask a session owner to share the Joule session with you. Do not create a duplicate monitor just to work around session access.
If a follow-up was requested but no session was created, the alert explains that no Joule session is available. Check the alert and monitor status for a failure or attention state, then retry only when the product offers a safe action.
What to expect
A successful follow-up gives you a reviewable Joule response and may include files, reports, or saved project assets. A partial or failed follow-up can still leave the monitoring alert and its evidence available.
Email alerts may summarize the monitoring outcome, but they are not a substitute for opening the alert. Delivery depends on the selected recipients, account notification preferences, and delivery safeguards.
